PREP for 1st DEC GIG

Hi babes,
i guess we're all pretty occupied with assignments, part-time jobs and full-time jobs at the moment.. that's why no news of jamming.. haha.

Anyway, i've been talking to Rosli, this guy i know from CACS guitar club and he's really experienced about gigs, music setting and stuff. So he gave me some tips that i want you gals to know too.

First thing first, acoustic settings at Guild HOuse is quite lao-pok... the two speakers are located way at the top and at the back. What he advised was: At most, mike up bass drum, bass (low frequencies tend not to be picked up as well), and the singer. Guitar just use amplifer enough. Should ask for A SOUND CHECK of 1hr too.. so we can adjust the music volume, tone..etc properly first.

Make a equipment list and pass it to the organizers too:

WISH-LIST:
1 drumset
2 guitar amps 2x and bass amp x1
3 monitor speakers ( 1 will do and we can share..but impt singer needs this!)
1 keyboard
4 mike stand and mikes x4

GOOD HABITS that we musicians need to pick up too:
T.S.V.
Tune:
guitars and bass to e keyboard
Sound:
Clean sound -> make sure tone is right; Effects-> Different one for diff parts? Figure it out b4 gig starts.
Volume:
During sound check, play the softest and loudest part of the song as a band; make sure vocalist is loudest and can be heard clearly.

*nod* useful tips!

How guys? Lets vote or sth. Who thinks we can do the gig, and who prefer we just skip this one?

The equipment is one big problem. You guys think its possible for us to mix and match? Like borrow drumset from Deb, An's brother's guit amp, then rent the rest or sth? Cheaper that way. Or cheaper alternatives? Other places where we can rent equipemnt at a lower rate? The transport is not a problem, organiser of gig can drive ard heh heh...

And on aside note, Deb! Good luck for the exams!

personally, i just feel that we should not bear the cost of equipment. Its the very basics that organisers have to provide for gigs. We are not asking for guitars or bass.

I mean, after running so many shows, this is how things are done.

We don't require any token amt, but we just shouldn't pay for the sound equipment. its not just the equipment, but a poor sound system is really awful (can't imagine it being like the mu chuan one again or worse =P) and we cannot, at our own cost, pay for a sound system also.

Sorry ah, I just feel very strongly against people taking advantage of musicians in Singapore. And it truly is, the very basic thing that a gig organiser should be prepared for.

if they are willing to cover that cost, I can definitely arrange for the proper sound system and equipment.

but maybe can let me go down to see what type of sound system they have at guildhouse first?

yujia, one question, this gig, is only us?

Wooo $600 - 800!!! That's really a lot ah. So far think they still looking ard for other performers, but we might be the only band. Might only, dunno whoe they are getting.

I'll give my fren the equipment list and the rough pricing ba. Tho chances are their budget prob wun be big enough so we wun get to jam. If they no money, then we dun gig ba heh. We just stick to our normal once a week (more if possible) jam sessions and brush up.
